FAQ FAQ
How can I support SAYv at Yappy Hour beyond buying a ticket?
Buy extra raffle tickets and donate at the event (cashless options may be available), bring needed supplies (see donation wish list), share adoptable pet profiles on your social media, sign up to foster or volunteer, become a monthly donor or corporate sponsor, and encourage friends to adopt or foster. Monetary donations and gift cards are especially flexible and helpful to the rescue.
I want to bring my dog — what should I do to make sure they're comfortable and safe?
Bring a sturdy leash and collar with current ID, waste bags, a collapsible water bowl, and any comfort items your dog prefers. Make sure your dog is up to date on vaccinations, well-socialized, and comfortable around other dogs and crowds; if your dog shows stress, remove them promptly. Never leave your dog unattended and follow guidance from SAYv staff about interactions with adoptable animals.
How should I interact with adoptable animals to give them the best chance of finding a home?
Let volunteers introduce the animals and ask about each animal’s temperament and needs before interacting. Approach calmly, allow the animal to come to you, use a soft voice, and avoid sudden movements. Ask volunteers about the animal’s ideal home and application process, take photos (with permission), and share profiles with friends or on social media. If you’re interested, complete an adoption or foster inquiry at the event so staff can follow up.
What items are most helpful to bring as donations, and how do I deliver them at the event?
High-need items typically include unopened dry dog and cat food, new leashes/collars/harnesses, clean blankets/towels, durable toys, and gift cards to pet supply stores or vets. Bring items to the donation table or designated drop-off at the event; organizers can usually provide a receipt for tax-deductible donations—ask the SAYv team at the check-in or donation table.
Are there weather or safety precautions I should plan for?
Check the forecast before you come. For warm weather bring extra water, collapsible bowls, shade or a small umbrella, and avoid walking pets on hot pavement. For cooler or rainy weather bring blankets and weather-appropriate gear. Watch pets for signs of heat or stress, keep dogs leashed, and follow event staff instructions to ensure a safe, comfortable evening for animals and people.
